When you are thinking of remodeling your kitchen, adding replacement kitchen doors, or bringing a few changes to it for it to have a fresh look and feel, one thing you may consider doing is having a kitchen theme. You may have your own ideas and there is a wide range of themes to choose from, but before you choose, you have to take a few things into consideration.
The first thing you have to consider is how extensively you wish the theme to integrate with your kitchen's overall design. For instance, if you are going for a color-based theme, then you have to decide whether the theme would be shown in a few elements of your design, in a bigger selection, or in all of the design elements in the kitchen. For example, a mosaic tile can be used for a backsplash in a kitchen with a contemporary design. The backsplash serves as a ground for the black-and-white theme, and then you decide how extensive you want it to be.
Moreover, your lifestyle is one factor you have to consider when choosing your kitchen theme. This lifestyle can be reflected in the theme. Southwestern homes, for instance, integrate thematic elements of the old west in their design, and that includes the kitchens. As such, color choices would include those that exhibit the earth and clay tones typically found in the region. Antiques and jars of such colors may also be found in these kitchens.
Your personality can also be a factor in choosing the theme for your kitchen. For instance, your bold and adventurous personality may be reflected by choosing bold colors. For example, you may go for vanilla white and cherry red lacquer cabinets. Or, you may choose the analogous color scheme, where you use three hues adjacent on the color wheel.
Bringing changes to your kitchen does not necessarily mean that you have to change it entirely, though. If budget is an issue for you, working on existing kitchen elements is an option for bringing your kitchen a fresh look that suits your style. For instance, you can stain your wood cabinets or change their color according to the theme you are aiming for. Or, you can change the doors of your cabinets for a new style. Other factors that affect the theme include the lighting, floor, and layout. And, the most important thing is the theme you choose should not compromise the functionality of your kitchen.
